There are several options for different uses.

You should decide based on the properties of these materials versus the cost to make the most informed decision.

For greenhouses we suggest woven poly greenhouse film, twin wall polycarbonate, or single layered clear polycarbonate. You can also choose clear acrylic or glass.

For an insulated structure I would suggest using aluminum composite material (ACM), fiberglass reinforced panel (FRP) or a traditional roof assembly such as plywood, underlayment and roofing material. Roofing materials can be architectural shingles, aluminum shakes, or metal sheet roofing with flashing.

We recommend you make that decision based on the use for the dome.

For greenhouses the easiest option is a gravel pad or ring that is level.

This allows drainage from the base of the dome.

Another option is a wood framed floor system. The advantages being you can get by with minimal excavation, built on a slope, allows for insulation and easy future retrofitting. This can also be relocated at a later date without much impact on the building site.

A concrete pad or stem wall is another option. They tend to be more suited for a very large dome that you know will be permanent. Concrete may require more work a may need to be done by a professional.

Door size is based on the specification and use of the dome you order. Barn domes can be made to fit double doors, while a greenhouse may just need one single standard door.
